Volunteering with Hampstead Heath Parkrun

Parkruns are free, timed 5km runs in parks at 9am every Saturday across the country, aimed at runners of all ages and abilities. They’re community events, as much as running events, and they attract a big crowd. They rely on volunteers - find out how to volunteer here. Parkruns are paused during lockdown.

Covid-19 update: volunteering opportunities are restricted at the moment because of the pandemic. Check with Heath Hands for the latest news here.

Heath Hands work in partnership with the City of London and English Heritage to deliver a range of volunteering activities on Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood and at Kenwood House. No previous experience is required, and they welcome people of all backgrounds and abilities. You can get involved in practical conservation and gardening sessions, delivering learning activities, and with the wildlife monitoring programme. Volunteers also deliver weekend weekend Wild About Hampstead Heath nature interpretation sessions.

Heath Hands also run:

  • Youth volunteering. Every Saturday from 2pm. No skills or prior experience needed, everyone is welcome and all equipment is provided. Find out more here. Heath Hands also works with local schools and youth groups to run activities across our open spaces. More here.

  • Friends of the Heath. You can directly support Heath Hand’s conservation, volunteering and community projects, and help to protect and maintain the Heath’s green spaces for nature and the enjoyment of all, by becoming a Friend of the Heath, here.

  • Community groups and activities. There’s a varied programme of free events and activities for the local community, with extra support for disadvantaged and underrepresented groups. More here.

  • Wildlife adoption. Support the conservation of the heath’s threatened species. More here.

  • Corporate membership and team building. Local businesses can find out how to get involved here.

Heath Hands are based at The Dairy, Kenwood House, Hampstead Lane NW3 7JN.
