To the left of the picture below is a chestnut tree which was planted by the famous violinist, Sir Yehudi Menhuin (1916 to 1999), who lived for many years at an C18 terraced house at 2, The Grove, Highgate.
The Angel Pub is across the road and The Highgate Society have offices at Church House, formally the residence of Charles Beck, whose claim to fame was the creation of the London Underground Map!
Next door, is The Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution, founded in 1839, to help disseminate knowledge to the poor (see picture below)
The picture also shows the Telecommunications Mast, originally erected in 1939, where it was used to help identify signals from enemy planes.
