New habitats that attract the species of wildlife that are desired can be manually created and are fairly straightforward to implement, with rewarding results!
The City Of London has planted several of these so called "shrub islands" at strategic places on The Heath.
In the 1990s, several shrub islands were created on the south side of Parliament Hill.
These are now successfully attracting species that like thick, impenetrable vegetation. Blackbirds, dunnocks and wrens are currently attracted and it is hoped that spring whitethroats will make use of these areas.
