Is the home of the Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution.
It is next door to The Highgate Society, overlooking Pond Square.
Although the actual building dates further back, the Institution (founded 1839) moved here in 1840, with its main purpose that of spreading education among the less privileged.
It is one of the few remaining Victorian institutions in the country and offers "new ideas, fascinating books, stimulating films and great company."
There is a library, a members' room, two classrooms for courses for adults, as well as lectures, films, art exhibitions, musical occasions, events and trips to the theatre.
