The author THINKS the photo above was taken near Kenwood Stable Gate, looking towards St. Michael's Church, with Cohen's Upper Field just beyond the immediate brow, where the "Cut Through" path is not immediately visible.

Sheep were to be found grazing all over The Heath and on the grounds of Kenwood House (still known as Pasture Land) right up to the late 1950s. Indeed, there are discussions now as to the plausibility of reintroducing them.

"Mr. Crocker," said Lord Hampstead, "if you will remain here for five minutes I will ride on; or if you will ride on I will remain here till you are out of sight. I must insist that one of these arrangements be made"
